Yay for life drawing. Life drawing is fun. This piece was done in pastels in a 3 hour pose. I try and be as fast as I can and maintain the sweep and flow of my lines.

Futility Man

Futility man sat, gloomily, at the café bit of Macdonalds, under bright lights. He was waiting for Shadow Boy to come along and exercise his powers on the lights so that they matched his mood a little better. Mind you, the flourescents overhead really picked out that sallow colouring that he was so proud of.
MacDonald's tended to be the accepted meeting place for the legions of futility. It wasn't that MacDonald's was futile in itself (though this may well be the case), rather that the members could observe frantic activity and by their inactivity provide a nice stark contrast and actually seem to be doing less.
Futility Man felt that he had done the day justice. He had started by sleeping through most of it (Lady Lethargy's powers at their full height between early morning and late afternoon). Then he had succeeded in moving even more slowly than usual. He had then made his way to university, whereupon he had picked things up, moved them, nodded, picked them up and moved them back again.
This had taken all afternoon, owing to the large breaks necessary to sustain this kind of activity.
After one of these breaks, he was forced to lie under a tree for a while and consider it. That's a tree, he thought. He decided that he had pursued futility with here-to-fore unheard of commitment, and in the last six months not only accomplished what amounted to nothing but had actually managed to go backwards.
He had felt very proud at that moment and this was when he had made plans with Shadow Boy for this evenings outing (braving the outdoors was acceptable and within the bounds of futility as long as the distance required little effort, no organisation was involved, and of course nothing was actually accomplished.)
He had a sip of his Mac-coffee, which was appalling, counted his cigarettes and decided to have another one.
Puffing happily, he maintained a good long stretch of absolute inactivity.
These MacDonald's People certainly were busy.
