I based the figure in this one on my ex-lover and good friend, Marina. It was a perfect metaphor for her life to me -

she was in a terrible place at the time. She had broken up with her partner and had her young (2yr old at the time) son full time by herself, with no family support at all.

It seemed to be such a massive act of strength and faith on her part to be able to continue on and to be such a good mother when she was dealing with illnesses of her own at the time as well.

Her and I remain very close and I speak to her most days. I miss her.
