This piece is more simple and provides the first example of the stark orange versus blue that I find the most harmonious and powerful. It also began my slow realisation that when done with a little control, the sky in a landscape could take on almost any form.

I learned this from Turner, probably my greatest influence in landscape work.

His freedom of style is still something I aspire to(though I do not intend to tie myself to the mast of a ship in the midst of a storm to aquire a better understanding of natural spectalce as he reputedly did.)

I find his work far more satisfying and visionary than any of the impressionists to follow. I am aware that the impressionists themselves were influenced by his work but believe they failed to succeed in their emulations years after his work was produced.
