This piece was a commission. A guy was looking for a present for his brother who was gettng married, and they had met at this hotel. I spent a hell of a lot of time here in 2002 - I painted in the pub and got free coke and coffee, and I had a studio upstairs where we had life drawing once a week.

I had my work all over the walls and did pretty well from the whole arrangement as there was no commission charged and I made some good friends there too. I owe a lot to Geoff Chambers, former owner and proprietor - he helped me out when I was stuck for somewhere to show. I was chrashing and couldn't handle the gallery world for a while. I got a LOT of work done here and made a lot of mess.

The guy for whom I did the commission was so happy with it that he gave me an extra hundred bucks.

There is another version of it that I spilled coffee or something all over and gave up on; starting over and ending up with this one. I think it is better, but can't find the pic, and rescued it completely about a year ago, repairing the damage.
