This piece was named thus because I had been trying to convince the girl in it (her name is Marina and she is still very important to me) to pose for me for a long time.
Finally she acquiesced.
I did the piece from life and she was happy enough with it to pose for it another time. Most of it was done from memory, though. If someone is important to me, their features will reoccur in my work anyway.
She is very beautiful and I was glad that it worked out so well. It represented something of a turning point in my watercolour work. I realized the freedom of the medium - the ability to use very dark or saturated colours. Most watercolorists keep to pastel tones, which is of course nuts.

Marina has subsequently posed for me a number of times and is probably my primary model, not to mention best friend and, if I were a better person, she would possibly have become my partner. She takes care of me sometimes when I lose the plot. She won the 2007 medal for something devastatingly spectacular for university in 2007. I am INTENSELY proud of her.
